Mining Ships

The information below is only a guide and is subject to changes.

How you fit your ship, where you mine and what you use it for changes all the time - but hopefully this gives you some ideas!

Choosing your next mining ship can be tricky - and depends on what you want to achieve, so there's no right or wrong answers here.

Frigates

Venture.png

Good for:

  • Great starter ship!

  • Low cost - good for high risk mining in low sec, null sec and wormholes

Bad For:

  • Small hold - not so good for afk mining

Barges

Procurer.png

Good for:

  • Tanky - so good for higher risk expeditions

  • Medium mining hold size

Prospect.png

Good for:

  • Gas cloud harvesting

  • Mining in low-sec / Null-sec or wormholes

  • Can cloak

Bad For:

  • Expensive - so higher risk of losing the ship (PvP)

Retriever.png

Good for:

  • Biggest Ore hold size in this class

Exhumers

Blingy Ships

Ship costs escalate significantly when you start getting into Barges and Exhumers. Whilst they increase your efficiency, they also attract gankers.

Consider where you're mining (security status) and whether you're prepared to lose a ship.

Especially if your fitting high value modules!!

If mining in fleet - a high value ship will attract gankers and put the whole fleet at risk.

Fitting

With all ships - how you fit them changes their abilities and value.

Here is a useful site where you can see how other players fit their ships

AFK Mining

Ships with bigger ore holds enable this - though afk mining is always a high-risk plan, no matter what security status you're mining in.

  • Medium mining hold size

Mackinaw.png

  • Biggest Ore hold size in this class

Endurance.png

Good for:

  • Ice harvesting

  • Mining in low-sec / Null-sec or wormholes

  • Can cloak

Bad For:

  • Expensive - so higher risk of losing the ship (PvP)

Covetor.png

Good for:

  • Good mining yield amount

  • Faster mining cycle time

Bad For:

  • Smaller hold size (needs compressing often if in fleet)

  • Not very tanky - so is considered an easier target compared to the Procurer

Hulk.png

Good for:

  • Highest yield and fastest cycle times

Bad For:

  • Smaller hold size (needs compressing often if in fleet)

  • Low defences - so if often a high value easy target for gankers
